The OVerall Semster

I feel that overall this semester Comm and New Media was a very helpful beginning class. We started the class first getting to know everyone majors and finding out who this class is really helpful towards. As a comm major myself i feel that i was able to experience and understand all the different concentrations in this department. We learned about advertising when working on the media literacy, we learned about graphic Novel designing when working on the graphic novel project and then we learned at the end filmmaking when working on the music video. I will still be blogging in the future because i have more comm classes. I hope to take this blog to the next level in my other classes by writing and describing more in depth knowledge and information about communications overall.

Vals

My vals came out to be a achiever and experiencer.  I believe that the vals are true about who i am. I like to call myself an experiencer because i like to always try and understand different things in the world. having more knowledge about different things make your life more joy able and exciting. An example of me being an experiencer would be the field that i am pursuing in college with is filmmaking. I have only been learning filmmaking for about 4 years now, the reason y i wanted to learn it is because its different and exciting and is something that i can use to grasp different thoughts and analogies i have about the world. The second val i got was achiever. i like to call myself and achiever because i believe in only success and not failure. I have very high goals for myself in the future and i don't believe in stopping or compromising anything of myself to reach those goals. I believe that if you have the talent and dedication to reach where you want to go, then nothing can get in your way.

The Web at 20

The web at the age 20 years old has literary become the worlds most number one resource in everyday living. The growth of the web as also caused people to become more and more ungrateful with it. This article talks about how as people we have become complacent with the web. The more advanced it gets the more advanced we should get as people. The web is not just a piece of nature as it says, it is tool that is very much helpful in our everyday life and shouldn't be taken for guaranteed under any circumstances.

The MaXx

After reading the article on the movie The Maxx, i would have to say that Sam Keith was definitely an innovator for being able to use elements from two different types of medium to create one ingenious adapted media. Television is a form of media that has to use different kinds of medium or sources to produce its outcome. When making any form of television it is very important to be able to grab all types of needed elements to be able to portray an authenticity that the audience can be able to understand and also visualize. The maxx is a movie created from a comic book. When making the movie Sam keith was able to portray the movie in form of a graphic novel by using different distinguishing elements like framing,color coding, animation and transitions. The movie was an absolute success and it is very groundbreaking.

3D

The purpose of this article is to tell the opinion of a woman and what she thinks of 3D animation. She wrote something that a lot of people read and got back to her what they thought of it. She believes that 3D animation is a step in the wrong direction and does not give you a virtual reality, like it is meant to. Most people disagreed with her and liked it, thinking that 3D animation was fine, but a man that actually worked with animation wrote her back and gave a surprising view on it. The man said that 3D is in fact a distracting form of art, because not only does it misrepresent objects but it also distracts the viewer from the movie. The woman then goes on to say that 3D is only a special effect. Like a comfortable seat in the movie, 3D effects are only there to compliment the main thing: the story. 3D claims to be normal, and closer to the effect of reality, but when you watch 3D you see that it exaggerates reality. She claims that 3D animation is more bizarre than reality and therefore does not complement virtual reality.

Midterm

So far in this class i have learned a lot of interesting things about media literacy. Being in mass communication i have learned about how things are interpreted by audience and what are some different signs or messages that can be sent in your work. Media literacy helped me understand more about advertising. advertising is made to sell a product by showing a or portray something good that it brings. Although the cause of the message is good, the way the messages are portrayed at times can be shown as raunchy, stereotypical or just downright degrading.

Graphic Novel

This Graphic Novel passage is an exert from the comic Mon-El. Mon El is a superhero that was often resembled to superman. He had the exact same powers and the costume was also almost identical.  The dialogue in this comic is made are said in way of almost third person like. Although the characters are speaking in a sense of a conversation to each other the dialogue is said in a way for the audience to be able to follow along and understand what they are each talking about. The pictures look almost hand  drawn. I like the colors of the skies. The clouds and the color of the animation Mon El dashing away. The frames are made in almost like camera angles. The first frame is an establishing shot of both characters and the scene then comes a closeup of Mon-El scene is talks first. The third frame is an high above the shoulder shot to explain the illusion of them flying. 

Media Literacy

A intertexuatly is the shaping of texts meanings. the reason we use magazines and other different kinds of objects is because they all have different subliminal messages that are sent in them. Some magazines Ads at times advertise a certain message or object but have way deeper undertone in what they are really trying to portray. Even though some companies are supposed to be more family oriented than others they all still use the same different types forms in which they send there message which is either with sex, money or power.

Preparing For A Career In Media

The one chapter in the Media guide that stood out to me was chapter 3 which was called "Preparing For A Career In Media". this chapter is about different steps or tips that can help you start your quest for a job in media and communications. This chapter helps learn before i begin my career all the needed steps that can help me reach my goal. The first step is to first have a good career planning. Which means making sure you know where you wanna go and what needed steps are needed to be taken to reach there. It also gives you a good idea of having a notebook or journal throughout your journey so you can always write down anything you learn or any ideas you may come across and would not want to forget. I know that for me becoming a videographer/filmmaker is going to be long journey. i hope to finish my bachelors then enroll myself into New york Film academy. New york film academy is very prestigious film school that teaches you deeply everything you need to know about filmmaking and cinematography. I hope to get into this school and excel and then hopefully get an internship into a very nice video production company.
